Position Summary:

The Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Manager is responsible for analysis, performance monitoring, optimizing and communicating about The Container Store through our company website.  This position partners with Marketing, Buying, Creative and Information Systems to strategically plan and optimize our website usage from a customer standpoint.  This is a full-time salaried, exempt position, reporting to the Online Marketing Director

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews the website structure and organization including the site’s hosting, page redirects, error pages and URL structure
  • Evaluates the source code, Flash, shopping carts and content management system as well as what the spiderbot sees
  • Makes recommendations to text elements, source codes, URL’s, page titles, descriptions, meta tags and file names
  • Conducts keyword analysis to drive traffic to the website and determines which keywords have too much competition and which keywords provide a special niche for the website owner
  • Analyzes the top 5-10 competitors for keywords and phrases, site structure, page titles and elements, content, links and meta tags
  • Conducts ranking and indexing analysis to reveal the website indexing for specific keywords on the three major search engines: Google, Yahoo & MSN
  • Provides analyses for web page content including keyword density, word count and the corresponding meta descriptions and meta tags
  • Creates a link building strategy that enhances and promotes the website
  • Manages website performance monitoring including traffic ranking and indexing for the most important keywords, average time spent on site, bounce rate, most popular keywords, etc.
  • Creates Launchpad jobs and pivotal tracker stories for SEO content additions and updates and ensures they are followed through to completion
  • Reviews and approves all new pages to ensure that the content is indexable and optimized for SEO on Gift Registry, ATHOME and POP!
  • Works closely with our vendor to ensure our paid search marketing is in line with our organic search marketing
  • Collaborates with Development Teams to ensure that a site’s code is functioning optimally from an SEO standpoint
  • Partners with Marketing Teams to identify branding elements to use on the website
  • Works with the Buying Team to enhance product sales pages in order to create a stronger on-site user experience
  • Stays current of SEO techniques and changes by reading industry blogs and reviewing other company websites
  • Stays on top of data collection changes and trends to optimize and adjust any corrective action that may need to be taken
  • Consistently arrives promptly to work the assigned schedule
  • Responsible for maintaining discretion related to all confidential/sensitive company and customer information
  • Performs all other assigned duties
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5+ years search engine optimization experience
  • Experience with a multi-channel retailer preferred
  • Based in Dallas/Ft. Worth area
  • Experience with analytics tools and project management tools (such as Pivotal Tracker)
  • Strong computer skills:  proficiency in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and knowledge of Excel
  • Is committed to working scheduled hours and has the flexibility to work additional hours based on changing business needs
  • Knowledge of industry business and passion for following trends in the industry
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, at all levels within and outside the organization
  • Ability to quickly separate the mission-critical tasks from the lower priority tasks; focuses on the most value-added projects of the day or week
  • Flexible, with a positive attitude and passion for knowledge
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects at once
