Position Summary:

The Domestic Transportation Manager manages and coordinates all domestic transportation activities with a major focus on the development, implementation and advancement of domestic transportation procedures, strategies, analysis and metrics.  This position takes a strategic leadership approach and will be located at the centralized corporate office & distribution center in Coppell, Texas, for improved collaboration with the Distribution Center leadership team, Merchandising, Vendors and Stores.  He/she helps lead in the development of metrics, systems and best practices.  This is a full-time salary exempt position.

Director of Logistics and Transportation

Principal Duties and Responsibilitis:

  • Establishes and manages  priorities, goals and metrics for department and individual performance
  • Develops scorecards illustrating key performance indicators related to truckload (OTR), less-than-truckload (LTL), rail and parcel service levels
  • Ability to interpret, implement and follow up on government regulations pertaining to the Department of Transportation (DOT) as necessary
  • Responsible for daily operations for all domestic inbound and outbound freight and carrier rate/cost management
  • Responsible for daily yard operations
  • Assist in the development of improved transportation expertise and practices including negotiation of transportation contracts; familiar with all modes and regulations, providers, etc.
  • Responsible for motivating, training, recruitment, retention and career development on the Transportation Team
  • Assess and develop the talent needs of the transportation team
  • Develop "bench strength" in the organization to enable future growth strategies
  • Assist in the development of expense plan, controls and measurements to monitor progress, including service-level agreements
  • Understand best practice metrics and the requirements for operational compliance / commitment and be a key leader in meeting the guidelines for effective service levels and risk management
  • Demonstrate support for the merchandising and stores organizations by fostering effective communication
  • Consistently arrive promptly to work the assigned schedule
  • Responsible for maintaining discretion related to all confidential/sensitive company and customer information
  • Perform all other assigned duties
  • Education: BS or BA, concentration in Supply Chain or Logistics preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience preferred
  • Experience managing others including career development, directing and evaluating work – attention to detail is critical
  • Excels at leadership with consistent positive attitude
  • Strong organizational,  multi-tasking, research, problem solving skills are crucial
  • Proficiency in computer based software including Microsoft Word, Excel and  Access
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic; willingness to go above and beyond to get the job done
  • Excellent pace and energy, self motivated, team player
  • Possess confidence and competence in decision making ability
  • Minimum five years experience in domestic transportation management
